Recorrido:
Spend Friday-Friday on our Tall Ship

You will get to spend a week diving and exploring both the ocean’s depths and the island villages.

In 2018, National Geographic partnered with the Ocean Azul and Waitt Foundations to dive for a month aboard our beautiful ship, Santa Maria Manuela. 617 dives were launched in the Azorean archipelago in the name of marine science and conservation. The National Geographic documentary which resulted showed the world quite how stunning the waters around the Azores are.

You will get to see just how stunning it is as we will dive some of the best dives from the expedition around Faial, Flores and Corvo Islands with local knowledge on the best sites in specific swell and weather conditions.

Faial:
Faial is a destination for many divers because it is one of the only places in the world where you can dive with blue sharks. Diving with this predator is a spectacular experience and the best place to see them is a seamount just ten miles offshore. When you are not diving you can experience the rich culture of the island as well as see the incredible scenery shaped by Faial’s last volcanic eruption in the 1950s.

Flores:
Diving in Flores is an amazing experience because of its crystal-clear water and great abundance of marine life. The jagged coastline of the island has allowed for many bays, caves, cracks and caverns where sea life thrives below the surface. Check out the amazing coastal reefs and rock formations where you may spot large schools of fish like the yellowmouth barracuda. Flores is another place to take in the magnificent scenery with its abundant greenery and charm.

Corvo:
The first island to set up a voluntary reserve, Corvo has great marine life to see as well. the island is relatively isolated and very small, making it the perfect place for dusky groupers, yellowmouth barracudas, parrotfish, blacktail combers among many others. Go to one of the several great dive sites to see it all for yourself. If you get to spend any time on land, be sure to visit the only town on the island, Vila do Corvo, with its cobblestone streets, fields of hydrangeas and large seabirds!

Puerto de salida

Horta, Portugal

Características del barco
Four masted schooner Santa Maria Manuela offers adventure voyages, island hopping, ocean voyages, diving and oceanographic expeditions for individuals of all ages and groups. At 223ft long (63 metres) she is the largest tall ship Classic Sailing offers activity holidays on, but the crew to guest ratio is excellent so you will be well looked after. This historic Portuguese tall ship has excellent facilities on board and plenty of holiday toys like dive ribs, 'stand up paddle boards' and kayaks, but this is also a ship where you can take part in the hands on sailing, join a night watch or climb the rigging.

Santa Maria Manuela was once the flagship of the Portuguese cod fishing fleet. Built in 1937, in the same year as her sister ship Creoula, she was designed to fish the Newfoundland Banks and rich fishing waters of Arctic Greenland. She often carries the small rowing and sailing dories that would have set out from the mother ship to fish for cod, so you can continue her fishing tradition from small boats or from her huge wooden decks.
